EMS Elective

The OUDEM Center for Prehospital & Disaster Medicine provides a medical student and visiting resident elective. During this 2- or 4-week program, the myriad aspects of ground EMS, aeromedical EMS, disaster and mass-casualty medicine are covered in an elective tailed to the individual student or resident. Experience options include ride-alongs on fire engines, ambulances, EMS supervisor vehicles, and in some cases (schedule allowing) with the Medical Director of the EMS Authority (EMSA, which provides ground EMS services in Oklahoma City and Tulsa). In addition to the EMSA Medical Director, OUDEM faculty also provide medical directorship for MediFlight and AirEvac helicopters stationed throughout the state.

Students interested in the EMS elective should contact Dr. Bo Burns,  Associate Professor and The George Kaiser Family Foundation Chair in Emergency Medicine, for additional information.
