Residents as Teachers

With close supervision and guidance from the OUDEM faculty, residents develop and deliver lectures, and organize and participate in seminars, covering a variety of topics.  The residents are also able to gain experience from presenting to a larger audience, as early as their PGY1 year.  Each year, all residents prepare an educational, research, or clinical topic (e.g., case report) for presentation at an annual University-wide symposium.  Residents receive feedback to assess the benefit of their teaching.  Residents value this feedback and use it to improve their teaching.

Clinically, upper-level residents supervise the performance of more junior-level residents, as well as off-service rotators, and rotating students.  This experience helps strengthen leadership skills and develop as educators.
