Other Educational Opportunities

Depending on the interests of the individual residents, there are opportunities to be trained and certified as participants and instructors in courses, such as Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS).  (The Department of Emergency Medicine does not believe that American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM)-certified specialists should be required to maintain certification in courses such as ATLS and ACLS.  However, the Department does believe that our residents and faculty can further our educational mission by teaching of these types of courses to various local and regional audiences.)

The Oklahoma Center for Prehospital & Disaster Medicine  provides an ideal resource for teaching, planning, and practice of Disaster Medicine.  The EM residents participate in OCPDM activities throughout their training.

Residents with an interest in pursuing an MPH degree from the OU School of Public Health are encouraged to pursue these studies.  The Residency Director will work with residents to integrate into some rotations, coursework for the MPH.
